The APA  Detroit Chapter is affiliated with the American Payroll Association, but is an autonomous and independent organization.


The Chapter is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to providing educational, communication, and networking opportunities for payroll professionals.

Michigan Statewide Conference for Payroll Professionals

Our April 2012 meeting featured representatives from the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency.  First, Annmarie Cardenas presented an overview of the agency and the services it provides to employers.  The fraud prevention presentation, “Everybody Owns Integrity,” was presented by Tina Alagna and Sandra Sigworth (pictured).  

At our May 2012 meeting Chapter President Barbara Mattson, CPP introduced our guest speaker, Neil Zechman from the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency. who educated us on "Tax and benefit Legislative updates changes regarding Michigan's Unemployment Compensation law."  Neil’s presentation highlighted the changes impacting, and benefiting, employers.

At our August 2012 meeting families and friends joined us at the Detroit Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for an overview of the Federal Reserve's role and a tour of the facility.


Our September 2012 meeting featured "OH! Bamacare and Business” presented by Mike Bindus, Account Executive, Salus Group.

Our November 2012 meeting featured Chapter Treasurer, Howard Goldman, CPP presenting “Record Retention.”  In addition, we recognized new CPP’s Jennifer Jarvis and Alex Kottor for their accomplishment.

Prior to presenting “Think Like an Actor, Communicate Like a Leader - Communicate with Confidence, Clarity and Impact,” our February 2013 guest speaker, Eleni Kelakos, gave Chapter President Barbara Mattson, CPP a big hug for her well-prepared introduction.

Our speaker for March 2013 was Gino Petrozzi, Manager, National Tax - Employment Tax Advisory Services for Ernst & Young LLP.  He discussed many of the various state laws, concerns, and compliance issues regarding multi-state taxation.

Our speaker for April 2013 was Christina Archer-Walker of the Unemployment Insurance Agency who discussed MI-WAM - the new electronic filing regulations for the State of Michigan.
